In most of the United States, clocks go back one hour at 02:00 local time on Sunday 1 November 2026, and 02:00 becomes 01:00 standard time. The hour from 01:00 to 02:00 occurs twice, first on daylight time and then on standard time. Federal law sets the period from the second Sunday in March to the first Sunday in November (15 U.S.C. §260a). Section 110 of the Energy Policy Act of 2005 moved the end from the last Sunday in October to the first Sunday in November, effective 2007 (Pub. L. 109-58). The next change is on 14 March 2027, when clocks go forward. The 2026 reference page is the 2026 United States clock-change page.

Method: Computed from the IANA time zone database (2026 rules) for each zone at noon local time on 31 October and 2 November 2026.

Arizona except the Navajo Nation, Hawaii, and the territories do not change. A.R.S. §1-242(C) says the state elects to reject daylight saving. Phoenix stays on mountain standard time. Honolulu stays on Hawaii standard time. NIST names Puerto Rico, the US Virgin Islands, Guam, and American Samoa. On Saturday 31 October Denver is one hour ahead of Phoenix. On Monday 2 November both are on the same offset, so that gap is closed. US clock changes by year lists other years.

Will my phone change automatically?

On an iPhone, open Settings, then General, then Date & Time, and turn on Set Time Automatically. Apple says that sets the date and time from the time zone, so the device can adjust for daylight saving time. Apple notes the option may not be available on every device. On Android, open the Clock app, then More, then Settings, then Change date and time, and turn on Automatic date and time. Menus vary by phone maker. Google says this updates the time automatically. Automatic time zone is a separate switch, and Google says only some devices have it. Neither page says every phone will change. On Sunday morning, check the setting or the clock. Daylight saving ends at 2:00 a.m. local time on the first Sunday in November, which in 2026 is 1 November (NIST). An oven, a car clock, or a watch may still need setting by hand.

Where permanent daylight saving time stands

H.R. 139, the Sunshine Protection Act of 2025, was introduced on 3 January 2025 by Rep. Vern Buchanan (R-FL-16). It would repeal the temporary period in 15 U.S.C. §260a and make daylight saving time permanent. The House passed it on 14 July 2026, 308 to 117 (Roll no. 238). On 15 July 2026 the Senate received the bill and referred it to the Committee on Commerce, Science, and Transportation. As of 26 October 2026, that is still the latest action (Congress.gov). The Senate has not passed the bill, so it is not law, and US clocks still fall back on 1 November 2026. The engrossed House text is the version the House passed.

NIST says the Department of Transportation regulates daylight saving time and NIST does not. NTP syncs UTC only. Devices apply the time zone data locally (IANA time zone database). How daylight saving works covers the same rules on this site. In New York, sunset is 17:53 on Sat 31 Oct and 16:52 on Sun 1 Nov, about an hour earlier on the clock.
