Local time and offsets. Each city is tied to one IANA time zone, such as Europe/London. Your browser turns the current instant into local time with its own copy of the IANA time zone database, so the live clock is this computer's clock. The pages are also built with time zone data no older than release 2026c, and the build stops if the data is older. A one-off UTC check against TimeAPI.io or Cloudflare only warns if this computer is more than 30 seconds off.
Clock changes. Daylight saving dates are the transitions in the IANA database for the year, shown in local time with the offset before and after. When a government changes its rules, a page is right only after the database release and a rebuild. The United States 2026 page also quotes the status of the federal daylight saving bill.
Public holidays. The base list is the open-source date-holidays dataset, built for 2025 to 2028. We list only days it marks as public holidays. Bank closures and half days are left out. Where we have checked an official list, it replaces the dataset: gov.uk for England and Wales, the Department of Personnel and Training for Central Government offices in India in 2026 and 2027, the Canada Labour Code for federal holidays in Canada, Proclamation No. 1427 for the Philippines in 2027, the Cabinet Division for Pakistan in 2025 and 2026, and the Bank of Thailand notice for Thailand in 2027. Islamic dates that depend on a moon sighting are marked as estimates until they are announced.
Sunrise, sunset, and moon. Sun times use the SunCalc formulas for the city's latitude and longitude, worked out for local noon so a clock change in the night does not shift the day. Moon phase, illumination, moonrise, and moonset also use SunCalc. Moon distance, planet positions, and the equinox and solstice instants use the astronomy-engine library. Times are rounded to the minute and can differ by a minute or two from a national almanac, more near the poles.
Extra cities. Populations and coordinates for cities beyond the original list come from GeoNames cities15000, used under CC BY 4.0. First-level admin names come from GeoNames admin1CodesASCII. A country time page with no city in that list uses the principal point in the IANA zone1970.tab file. Weekend patterns are not listed, because this site has no weekend dataset.
Eclipses and weather. Eclipse dates, types, and regions are quoted from NASA Goddard Space Flight Center catalogs. We do not compute eclipse paths. Forecasts are fetched by your browser from Open-Meteo when a weather page opens. They are not stored in the page.
Corrections. If a time, holiday, or sunrise is wrong, write to [email protected] with the page and what you expected. Holiday fixes need an official source, such as a government gazette or notice, before they go live.
