The same letters can mean different offsets. CST is the usual example. Read the city, not only the abbreviation.

Letters lie

Ambiguous

CST is not one zone

CST can mean Central Standard Time in North America (UTC-6), Cuba, or China Standard Time (UTC+8). The table on this page only lists letters used by cities we carry. Read the city name beside the letters.

Radio

Zulu is UTC

Military letters are offsets, not IANA zones. Zulu does not spring forward. Juliet is skipped on purpose.

BST and EST

Seasonal names

BST is British Summer Time, UTC+1. EST is Eastern Standard Time, UTC-5. Both vanish or appear on government dates.
